Weekly Blog-November 23rd-27th

This is my sketch. It is a person walking around in an art museum. The walls of the museum are drawn two dimensionally to demonstrate that the area in a museum is wide open and accessible. The perception of an open, inviting area where a character could thrive would be appealing in a film.

This picture is the first frame from one of my videos. The dark tree against the cloudy sky gives off an ominous impression. It would make a great establishing shot for a scene in a film.

This is another first frame from one of my videos. The building is part of the library building at UNM-Valencia Campus. I am inspired by the square design of the building and how the light and shadow create triangles on the building. Animating buildings with this kind of light is interesting.

Animation

This is my animation. I used the song Despertar by Aisha Duo on the Quiet songs Album from 2005. I used Linear Exposure Control in the Environment settings in 3ds max to bring out the transparency of the objects and the textures.

Weekly Blog: November 16th-20th

This sketch is my own. The motif of an object, such as the fountain's staircase layout, effects the use of that object in a film. Props along with the impact of larger objects such as cars and fountains should be considered carefully.

This is the first frame from one of my videos. This bench is located at the UNM-Valencia Campus by the Student Services Building. The light that is displayed through the window onto the bench gives the area a lonely, majestic imprint. It would be a great place to film a scene in which a character had a moment of reflection.

This is my picture. It represents depth of field, a photography technique in which the camera focuses on one object either up-close or far away. In this picture, the closer leaves are more visible. This technique could apply to film as well to create a distancing effect from an object or person.

Weekly Blog-November 9th-13th

I drew this sketch. It demonstrates that objects and their shadows create imaginative dimensions. The shadow of an object is in one dimension while the actual object is in another dimension. The straight lines illustrate these dimensions. Thinking about objects and environments in this way expands my understanding of 3D environments, which could enhance my animations in the future.

This is a bench at the UNM-Valencia campus. It is an example of the dimensions I discussed above.

I took this picture near the Belen Airport. I am inspired by the branches of the tree extending across the sky. This shot could easily serve as a transition between scenes in a film. It would signal the passage of time from day into night and visually move a story forward.

This is also one of my pictures. This fountain is located on the UNM-Valencia Campus. I am inspired by the water as it falls into the fountain. The transparency of the water is interesting and would make a great effect in a film. Filming an intense, emotional scene through a sheet of water would be intriguing. Experimenting with water effects could enhance my knowledge of how to create a story and work with cameras.

Weekly Blog-November 2nd-6th

I drew this sketch. It is a rough design for a building. My main focus for drawing this was to illustrate structure in buildings. The top and bottom of the building has the same design and structure. I could look for structure in my surroundings so that I can find interesting places to film.

I took this photograph. It is a long shot of the balcony area of the Humanities building on campus. Long shots create a more extensive perspective and are more significant. This is another idea I could incorporate into my films.

This is a picture I took of a picture of an old calendar of mine. It is the Colosseum in Rome. But the inspiring subject of this picture is the lights created from the movement of objects such as cars. This effect encourages me to investigate how light and movement fit together. While filming, I could adjust the shutter speed and f-stop to speed up or slow down the film and create this effect.

Weekly Blog-October 26th-30th

This is my sketch. It is a person's hand reaching down in a pond to pick up a leaf. The fingers are slightly underwater. Close-up shots are essential when developing a reaction in an audience. The audience is up close and personal in order to experience the texture or emotion, in this case the leaf's texture, along with the character. I can accomplish that experience in films for this class and IFDM.

This is a great stop animation called "Her Morning Elegance/Oren Lavie".

Another awesome stop animation called "Sweet Dreams" by Kirsten Lepore.

Stop animation is inspiring because of the use of photography. The idea that I could incorporate my still images into a moving story is so exciting. The stop animation above-"Her Morning Elegance"-creates a story through movement, which is something I want to explore perhaps in class and in IFDM.

This is one of my photographs. It was taken on the Pacific Coast Highway. When I travel I can imagine how people might live in environments like these houses or socialize on the balcony. Exploring different settings and environments will help me to develop characters that have real life qualities and use those settings as a basis for a film.
